Surprise Party:
Herb Miller, also known as "Gumdrop the Clown", was surprised by friends and family at a celebration for his 80th birthday. The party was held at the Desert Willow Restaurant in Palm Desert on Saturday afternoon, the 2nd of August. Herb Miller is the current president of the Palm Springs Shrine.







Wild West Wednesdays:
Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio hosts "Wild West Wednesdays" every week and provides a free buffet and line dancing lessons. Instructor Dottie Nelson and DJ Cory James from the Big 106 KPLP Radio work together to make the evening a big hit with local residents and visitors to the Valley.








Sheriff's dive team:
For two years now, the sheriff's dive team has been meeting at the Palm Springs Pool Sunday mornings to practice their skills, become more knowledgeable and safe. Diving Safety Officer Tom Jaskulski, a member of the Five Thousand Dive Club, has nearly forty years of diving experience that he brings to the group, as a mentor and group leader.







The Dixiecats:
Dixieland band Gordon Parr and The Dixiecats practice at The Joslyn Senior Center in Palm Spring. The Band is composed of musicians with many years of experience.





City of Indio Fire/Medic Dedication:
The City of Indio dedicated Paramedic Engine 87 to serve and protect the residents of North Indio and the surrounding area on July 29, 2003. It will provide a full- time certified paramedic with Advanced Life Support equipment, which will enhance "on-scene" care for medical and traumatic emergencies.








Girl Scouts Camp:
The Girls Scouts of San Gorgonio Council are hosting a weeklong summer day camp for girls first through eighth grade. The girls celebrate a year's worth of holidays in one week including New Year's, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, and St. Patrick's Day








National Kids Day Celebration:
The Boys and Girls Club in Desert Hot Springs hosted the national kids day celebration. Kids sang songs, played musical instruments they made, learned water safety in a demonstration of the junior lifeguards and enjoyed swimming and lunch provided by the Boys and Girls Club.








La Quinta Basketball Camp:
Coach Aaron Brown held a weeklong basketball camp for all ages at Lq Quinta High School. The camp concentrated on basketball skills and games, with daily tournaments and guest speakers.





NJB Hot Hoops:
College of the Desert was host to the National Junior Basketball of the Desert Tournament, which included 50 teams from Southern California, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada. Boys and girls from 5th grade to high school varsity participated in the 2-day competition.
