Summer Dance Camp
The Dance Program in Cathedral City held a Summer Dance camp for ages 9 through adult with a minimum of one-year training to advanced levels. Camp was held at the Cathedral City Community Center from July 18 to 31. The camp was staffed with guest teachers from the California Ballet Company of Port Townsend, Wash. Students attended four to five classes daily with training in ballet, point, variations, partnering, jazz, modern dance and nutrition.
Back to School Shopping Spree
Mervyn's, Palms to Pines Rotary of Palm Desert, Salvation Army of the Low and High Desert, Boys & Girls Club, Bridges of Hope and the Desert Springs Marriott combined efforts to give deserving children a shopping spree at Mervyns in Palm Desert Saturday, Aug. 7. One-hundred twenty-one children were given gift cards worth $110 to buy clothes for the upcoming school year. In addition to the school clothes, Palms to Pines Rotary of Palm Desert donated backpacks filled with school supplies.
Challenger's Day Camp Luau
The United Cerebral Palsy local chapter held a luau at the Indio Community Center Friday, Aug. 6. The luau was held as an ending party to their week-long Challenger's Camp held at several locations in the valley.
Vista Cove Tea Party
Vista Cove at Rancho Mirage, specializing in memory care, holds weekly tea parties with musical entertainment on a piano that was previously owned and played by entertainment legend Bing Crosby. The tea parties and other activities. Spearheaded by Activities Director Brenda Jenkins, are put on to allow residents to interact with friends within their neighborhood and assist residents in identifying with and relating appropriately to others in their neighborhood.
Kindermusik
The Reimer School of Music in Palm Springs holds weekly Kindermusik classes for children ages 1 to 5. Along with accompanying parent or caregiver, children enjoy singing, moving, listening, socially interacting and playing instruments.
Miss Teen USA 2003 tours Angel View Homes
Miss Teen USA 2003 Tami Farrell toured and met residents of two Angel View Homes in Palm Springs Wednesday, July 28. Angel View is the charity of choice for the Miss Teen USA pageant 2004.
2004 Senior Olympics
Hacienda de Monterey senior living community held its 2004 Senior Olympics Saturday, Aug. 7. Residents participated in modified Olympic activities. Winners of each event received awards at the end of the games.
Cool to be Hot
The city of Indian Wells held the Second Annual Cool to be Hot mixer at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort lounge. The event was held as an informal get-together Friday, Aug. 6.
Fund-raising Dinner
The Desert Contractors' Association, Building Industry Association Desert Chapter and the Desert Sales and Marketing Council all met for a joint dinner mixer at the Palm Springs Air Museum Thursday, Aug. 5. The groups were successful in collecting from attendees and donated two truckloads of much-needed items to Shelter From the Storm.
