Bowl-A-Thon
The United Cerebral Palsy held its 14th annual Bowl-A-Thon at Palm Springs Lanes in Cathedral City Saturday, Aug. 21. The event was held to raise money for disabled children to attend Challenger's Summer Camp.











Musical Chairs
Musical Chairs Producer Derrik Lewis and Musical Director Wayne Abravanel held auditions for the upcoming fifth season for the cabaret performance of Musical Chairs at The Palm Canyon Theatre in Palm Springs Saturday, Aug. 21.









Honoring Tim Sullivan
The Palm Desert City Council held a reception honoring Tim Sullivan, general manager of Desert Springs Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, for his many years of service to the Coachella Valley. The event was held at the Desert Willow Golf Resort Country Club Friday, Aug. 20. Sullivan will step up as vice president of operations for the Western region for the Marriott hotel chain.









'Kindergarten Kick-Off'
The Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert held a "Kindergarten Kick-Off" party celebrating more than 500 preschool children and their families from the Palm Springs Unified School District who will be entering kindergarten in the fall.










Hall of Fame Day
The Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley and event sponsor Gladys Yeagers honored baseball great Nolan Ryan with Hall of Fame Day Friday, Aug. 20, at the Boys & Girls Club in Indio. The event included a fun-filled day of home run hitting, pitching, bubble-gum bubble blowing and coloring contests.











Summer Reading Program
The Desert Hot Springs Public Library presented traditional singer and storyteller Clark Branson Wednesday, Aug. 18. Branson entertained with songs and stories of the West for children and adults. The program was part of the valleywide Ninth Annual Summer Reading Program, titled, "Ride a Wild Tale."









Women, Infants and Children celebration
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a special supplemental nutrition program offered through the Riverside County Community Health Agency. On Thursday, Aug. 19, the Indio office held a breastfeeding celebration in part of Breastfeeding Awareness Month with Riverside County and local health care agencies passing out information on programs available, with musical entertainment by Cesar Daniel.










YMCA Student Artists recognized at the La Quinta City Council
The Family YMCA of the Desert recognized 30 YMCA students on Tuesday, Aug., 17, at the La Quinta City Council meeting. The students, ranging in age from 3 to 5, each received a "Certificate of Achievement" from Mayor Don Adolph and City Council members.









Palm Springs Air Museum
The Palm Springs Air Museum hosted a fun and informative demonstration from Richard Goins, also known as "Pilot Rocky the Airplane Jockey." Goins explained the principles of aviation in a hands-on setting in the museum on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month of August.
