Julius Corsini Elementary School Hosts Scholastic Book Fair

Julius Corsini Elementary School in Desert Hot Springs held its annual Scholastic Book Fair, themed “Read, White and Blue,” Nov.15-19. Principal Kiela Bonelli kicked off the event dressed as “Lady Liberty”.

Thanksgiving on the Mayflower

Hartshorn Van & Storage of Indio , a local agent of Mayflower Transit, held Thanksgiving event at Carter Elementary School in Palm Desert on Nov. 24. First grade classes dressed as pilgrims and took turns hopping aboard the “Mayflower” van to learn about the settlers of the New World.

Wild & Western Wacky Round-Up

The Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert in Rancho Mirage held a Fall Family Fun Day on Nov. 27. The Western-themed event included free pony rides, a family scarecrow building contest and a pie eating contest, as well as arts and crafts.

K-Kids Club of Palm Springs Gives to Troops

K-Kids are student members of Kiwanis Organization, and throughout the year they perform service projects for their schools, community and the world. On Nov. 23 at Katherine Finchy School in Palm Springs , the K-Kids packed bags and wrote letters for the troops in Iraq . Eighteen boxes of zip-lock baggies filled with letters from the Kiwanis Club and the K-Kids Club is being sent to Iraq by “Operation Interdependence: and will arrive in time for Christmas.

Jason Luckett, a guitar player and singer-songwriter played for the crowd at The River Amphitheater in Rancho Mirage on Nov. 18. He has been playing in the Los Angeles area for 10 years and has four musical releases. Luckett is known by audiences for his lively performances.

2004 Peace Officer & Public Safety Appreciation Day Awards

The Eighth Annual Coachella Valley Peace Officer and Public Safety Appreciation Day Awards Luncheon, hosted by the Palm Desert Chamber of Commerce, took place on Nov. 23 at the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort & Spa in Indian Wells. Award honorees included officers and volunteers from Desert Hot Springs to Coachella, and other awards were presented to the valley's most outstanding community and volunteer programs.

Shadow Mountain Palette Club

A grand opening of Shadow Mountain Palette Club's new gallery with the artists was held on Nov. 19 in Palm Desert . The nonprofit club provides art lessons for all age groups and grants scholarships to talented young students. The club raises money through fund-raising events and donations.
