City of Hope
The City of Hope Palm Springs chapter gathered at the Ramada Resort in Palm Springs for a holiday party December 17. The Palm Desert High School Chamber Singers provided the entertainment. City of Hope is a biomedical research, treatment and educational institution located near Los Angeles dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
Giving back
The girls water polo team from Desert Hot Springs High School sorted food at Our Lady of Solitude Catholic Church in Palm Springs December 17. The food was collected by the church for its holiday food drive. Community service is a requirement for all team members.
Holiday music
The Gardens on El Paseo in Palm Desert hosted holiday performances by the Southwest Community Church Celebration Choir and Steve Madaio and Bob O' Connor December 19.
Ivey Ranch
Residents of Ivey Ranch Country Club, a community for people 55 years and older in Thousand Palms, strung holiday lights throughout the club.
Holiday visit
Students from Mrs. Myers' fourth grade class at Katherine Finchy School visited Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs December 18. The children sang and played holiday songs through the hallways and decorated a tree in the family waiting room.
Santa visits La Quinta
Firefighters of Fire Company 32 from the La Quinta Volunteer Fire Company escorted Santa through the streets of La Quinta December 21 and 22. Santa's ride through town on a fire truck is a 49-year-old tradition.
McMillan Institute concert
Students of the McMillan Institute for the Arts in Palm Desert gave four performances at the Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert December 20-23.
Snowy paradise
Paradise Volkswagen in Indio sponsored a snow day and breakfast for Salvation Army families December 21. The dealership also collected gifts for the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. EZ103.1 promoted and broadcasted from the event.
Wrapping party
Volunteers and employees of the Desert AIDS Project in Palm Springs wrapped presents collected for the holiday toy drive December 19. The toys will be distributed to about 130 children of DAP clients, ages 6 months to 17 years, who are infected or affected by AIDS.
