City officials and artists celebrated the new Art in Public Places show, "Palm Desert Art Works," consisting of nineteen sculptures along El Paseo during a ceremony at the Gardens on El Paseo January 29.

Musical audition
Actors auditioned for the Coachella Valley Onstage production of the musical, "Night of a Thousand Stars," at the Miramonte Resort in Indian Wells February 1. The musical stars Howard Keel in a story about Palm Springs history and will run Easter weekend at the new La Quinta Arts Foundation Amphitheatre.
Sisterhood luncheon
Members of the sisterhoods from Beth Shalom, Temple Isaiah and Temple Sinai gathered for the Valleywide Tri-sisterhood Annual Luncheon at the Beth Shalom East Valley Jewish Community Center in Bermuda Dunes January 28. The goal of the sisterhoods is to promote and support Jewish culture in the Coachella Valley.
Peter Max
Artist Peter Max made several appearances during a show of his work at Elizabeth Edwards Fine Art Gallery in Palm Desert January 31-February 2.
Southwest Arts Festival
Artists displayed and sold their work during the 2003 Southwest Arts Festival at the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio January 31-February 2.
Special round of golf
Residents from Ivey Ranch in Thousand Palms invited Special Olympics athletes to play a round of golf with them on their home course February 1.
St. Theresa's walkathon
Parents joined the students and staff members of St. Theresa's Catholic School for the annual walkathon to Ruth Hardy Park in Palm Springs January 30. Palm Springs firefighters were on hand while the students played in the park. The pledge money raised will help pay for the new security system at the school.
Spaghetti dinner
Participants in the Tour de Palm Springs ate a spaghetti dinner made by Dolly Sinatra Sons of Italy at the Palm Springs Pavilion the night before the race, January 31.
James Monroe walkathon
The Parent Teacher Organization of James Monroe Elementary School in Bermuda Dunes organized a walkathon to raise money for trees and a soccer goal set February 1. A health fair and entertainment followed the walk.
