Art Walk on El Paseo
Nineteen galleries participated in the Art Walk on El Paseo in Palm Desert Jan. 6 by keeping their doors open until 9 p.m. The Art Walk takes place the first Thursday of the month until May. Selected galleries also hold artist's receptions during the Art Walk.

Coachella Valley Archaeological Society
The Coachella Valley Archaeological Society met Jan. 7, at the Cathedral City Senior Center, 68-727 E. Palm Canyon Drive. The Society presented a program by Mountain Cahuilla Elder Alvino Siva. Siva is a traditional Cahuilla Bird Singer and storyteller. Accompanied by his singers and dancers, Siva presented native stories, songs and his deep-rooted knowledge of the Cahuilla culture and language.

Desert Paws Annual Run
The fifth Desert Paws Annual Run took place Saturday, Jan. 8 in Palm Springs . The 5K run raises funds for the Desert Paws animal spay and neuter program.

Cabot's Pueblo Museum art reception
A reception for texture artist Alicia Bobrowska was held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Jan. 7 and 8 at the Pueblo Gallery in Cabot's Pueblo Museum at 67-616 E. Desert View Ave. in Desert Hot Springs. The Polish-born Bobrowska is an accomplished actress and artist, as well as a former Miss Poland. She specializes in tapestry and soft sculpture art.

Kennel Club Dog Show
More than 4,500 dogs competed for awards at the Kennel Club of Palm Springs All Breed Dog Show. The event was held at Empire Polo Club in Indio Jan. 7–9.

Desert Art Center
Desert Art Center at 550 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs is a fine arts gallery featuring local artists. It presents workshops, weekly art classes and art fairs twice a year.

50th wedding anniversary
Clarence and Esther Petersen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends at the Indio Elks Club on Jan. 8. Approximately 70 family members and friends attended the event, including Clarence's 95-year-old mother from Montana . Clarence was an air traffic controller for 30 years in Palm Springs and has met presidents and many celebrities during his career. Esther worked for Desert Sands Unified School District for over 20 years.
