Animal Therapy
Volunteers from Animal Samaritans SPCA visit the rehabilitation center at Desert Regional Medical Center Thursday January 15. Animal Samaritans SPCA supports the Animal Assisted Therapy program for people living in hospitals, convalescent homes, and assisted living centers in the Coachella Valley. Volunteers take their own animals to hospitals, nursing homes and other facilities where there are people in need.

Chili Cook-off
The La Quinta Senior Center held it's 13th Annual Chili cook-off Thursday, January 15, free to all ages; prizes were awarded for spiciest and tastiest chili.

Max Baer Jr., who played Jethro Bodine on the classic television show, The Beverly Hillbilies made an appearance to sign autographs at the new meet and greet at Fantasy Springs Casino Tuesday, January 13. The Casino will feature The Beverly Hillbilies Video Slots.

The band The Last Chance performed at it's a Grind coffee house in Rancho Mirage Tuesday January 13. It's a Grind holds Open Mic night every Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m.

Olive Crest Angel's Luncheon
The members of the Olive Crest Foundation, know as the Angels of the program held their monthly luncheon at Wally's Desert Turtle in Rancho Mirage Friday, January 16. The luncheon was held to talk about the fundraising efforts by the group to build a Coachella Valley Children's Center to provide care for children and families throuout the valley.

Poetry Reading and Open Mic
The Palm Springs Desert Museum held poetry reading and open mic Thursday January 15, from 6-8 p.m., with event host poet Linda Davis, audience members read poems, original and others work.

Health Fair
Nature's RX health food store in Palm Springs held it's annual Fair Saturday, January 17 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. throughout the store and parking lot. The Fair included vendors selling vitamins and health food, with a raffle to win gift baskets.

Special Olympics Golf Tournament
The Special Olympics of the southern held their golf tournament hosted by Ivey Rancho in Thousand Palms Saturday, January 17 at 2 pm. The tournament consisted with two person teams with one Special Olympics athlete and one Ivey League ranch member per team. After the tournament the athletes were served a barbecue hosted by Ivey Ranch. The member/Athlete golf event has been an annual even since 1990.
