"Spy Kingdom"
Over 1100 children ages 5 through fifth grade attended the
Southwest Community Church free vacation bible school program,
"Spy Kingdom," June 16-20. The program taught the story of
Esther and culminated in a musical presentation June 20. |

Bike Give Away
On June 21, at the Family YMCA of the Desert in Palm Desert,
the Desert Bicycle Club gave away 58 bikes to children chosen
for their good character. The Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation
provided a matching grant to help purchase the bikes. The
Walter Clark Legal Group and the City of Palm Desert provided
helmets for the bike recipients.

Dessert Competition
Joan Hunt's trifle won over ten other entries at the first
La Quinta Senior Center Dessert Competition June 19. Guests
at the monthly potluck luncheon following the competition
got to taste the entries that were judged on appearance, originality
and taste. |
Leadership Coachella Valley
Thirty seven rising leaders became the third graduating class
of the Leadership Coachella Valley program during a ceremony
at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage June 20. The
program, sponsored by seven valley chambers of commerce, exposes
the students to various aspects of the Coachella Valley during
ten daylong monthly sessions to help them make a positive
impact in the community.

Marines Family Fun Day
The Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage welcomed
Marines and their families from Twentynine Palms for a Family
Fun Day June 16. The families enjoyed swimming, lunch, golf
and movies as a thank you for the Marines' efforts in the
Middle East.

MOMS Club
MOMS (Moms Offering Moms Support) of Palm Springs and Cathedral
City raised money for the Mother to Mother Fund at the annual
dinner banquet and raffle at Paradiso restaurant in Palm Springs
June 18.

Memorial tournament
Golfers raised money for the Steve Conner Memorial Scholarship
Fund for Junior Golf during a memorial tournament at Landmark
Golf Club in Indio June 20. Conner worked for Landmark for
17 years before his death in April 2003.

Story time
Michael McCarty entertained families at Palm Desert Library
with folk tales from Africa, India and Indonesia as part of
the summer reading program, "It's a Jungle Out There...Swing
into your Library," June 18.

Resident artists
Residents of Wellington Place of Rancho Mirage assisted living
community displayed their art during a show in the lobby June
19.
