Nickelodeon Swing 'N' Golf Camp
Nickelodeon Swing 'N' Golf Camp was held in four sessions from June 21 to July 29 at the College of the Desert Golf Center for children ages 7 to 12. The Camp was taught by golf instructor Pam Maloof. Participants received a Spongebob standing golf bag and other Spongebob golf accessories.
Power Baseball Team at Library
The Palm Springs Public Library held an old-fashioned ice cream social with the Palm Springs Power Baseball Team, Tuesday July 13, in the library's youth room. Guests met the baseball players, got autographs, took photos with the team and entered a special drawing for a baseball autographed by the players.
Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Day
Habitat for Humanity of the Coachella Valley held Volunteer Day Saturday, July 10, giving citizens the opportunity to help construct homes for the organization as well as needy families of their community.
Summer Day Camp
"I Believe in Me" summer day camp at the La Quinta Community Center is for children who have completed kindergarten through 8th grade. It is held in three sessions through Aug. 13.
Firework Sales
The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City had a fund-raising fireworks booth located in the Sam's Club Shopping Center parking lot on Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City. All proceeds went to the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City.
'Singing the Way to Reading'
Children's entertainer Sandii Castleberry, also known as "Aunt Sandii," performed her animated show "Singing the Way to Reading" Saturday, July 10 at the Cathedral City Public Library. The performance attracted kids by integrating folk songs and popular children's literature. It was part of the valley-wide Ninth Annual Summer Reading Program, titled "Ride a Wild Tale."
Volunteen Scholarship Breakfast
The Desert Regional Medical Center Auxiliary held its annual Volunteen Scholarship Breakfast awarding scholarships to Volunteens with 100 or more hours of service at the hospital. The Auxiliary awarded $1,500 scholarships to three new recipients and three of last year's recipients who kept a 2.5 grade point average throughout their freshman year of college.
'Yippee-Yay'
The Friends of the Rancho Mirage Public Library sponsored a "Yippee-Yay" program Wednesday, July 7, where children made cowboy crafts with local artist Tammy Ashworth. "Yippee-Yay" was part of the valley-wide Ninth Annual Summer Reading Program titled "Ride a Wild Tale."
Appreciation Night
The Palm Springs Masonic Lodge held "Appreciation Night" Tuesday, June 19, to honor Palm Springs and Cathedral City police and firefighters.
