ABC Recovery Center recognition dinner
The ABC Recovery Center held its sixth annual recognition dinner at the Indian Wells Country Club Thursday, Feb. 19. The dinner was given in honor of Patty and Arthur Newman, recipients of The Ambassador Leonard K. Firestone Award of Merit for their service in the Coachella Valley.

Angel View celebration
Angel View celebrated it 50th anniversary at a gala luncheon Monday, Feb. 16, at the Doral Desert Princess Resort in Cathedral City. Angel View oversees 17 six-bed homes located in residential neighborhoods throughout the Coachella Valley.

National Charity League
National Charity League Palm Springs Chapter held father-daughter bowling at the Palm Springs Lanes in Cathedral City Saturday, Feb. 21. The National charity League is a mother and daughter philanthropic group that works throughout the valley donating service.

Jewish War Veterans meeting
The Jewish War Veterans held their monthly meeting at Temple Isaiah Feb. 11 at noon with guest speaker Morris Beschloss who spoke about the relationship between United States presidents and Israel.

Sons of Norway dinner
The Sons of Norway, Solskinn Lodge, held its fourth annual Norwegian Traditional Lutefisk Dinner at Hope Lutheran Church in Palm Desert, Saturday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m.

Shakespeare Competition
The English Speaking Union sponsored a Shakespeare Competition at College of the Desert, Friday, Feb. 20. Students throughout the valley and outlying areas acted out monologues and sonnets of Shakespeare’s to win the first prize trip of New York City to perform at the national level of competition on the Lincoln Center Stage.

St. Theresa Luncheon and Fashion Show
The St. Theresa’s Alter Society Presidents’ Day Luncheon and Fashion show was held Thursday, Feb. 19. The Alter Society is a volunteer program developed to help the St. Theresa Parish.

The UCLA Club of the Desert
The UCLA Club of the Desert held its preparations for the Mardi Gras “Un-Part” at the home of Pat and Fred Lyons in Palm Springs, where members of the club stuffed envelopes and had a fun time working on their big fundraiser of the year. The UCLA Club of the Desert is a group of alumni who raise money for scholarships for students of the valleys to attend UCLA.

YMCA after-school program
The Family YMCA of the Desert provides after-school child care for boys and girls in kindergarten through fifth grade. The program provides a safe atmosphere with healthy and fun activities.
