Assistance League networking meeting
The Assistance League of Palm Springs Desert Area held a one-day chapter networking meeting Monday, Feb. 23 at The Spa Casino Resort in Palm Springs, with different chapters throughout Southern California to discuss ideas and programs to serve the community. The Assistance League is a non-profit organization of volunteers serving the needs of the community.

Palm Springs Crusin‘ car show
The Palm Springs Crusin‘ Association held its annual car show at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden Saturday, Feb. 28. In memory of Dr. Sebastian George, all profits went to The Desert Cancer Foundation.

Day of Caring
The fifth annual Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Awareness was held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage. The event held nine seminars discussing breast cancer. The Day of Caring included a luncheon and fashion show with clothes provided Iris on El Paseo and modeled by cancer survivors.

Hat Day
The El Dorado Polo Club held hat day at the polo club Sunday, Feb. 29, with the Red Hat Society. More than 30 Red Hatters attended the two polo games.

Kindermusik International
The Reimer School of Music held Kindermusik International at Motions Dance Studio in Palm Desert Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. Children sang songs, danced and learned about music.

Fat Tuesday
The Renaissance Mirage Inn in Rancho Mirage held a Fat Tuesday celebration for its residents Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. The event included Mardi Gras decorations, food and a visit from Harpo the Clown.

Palm Springs Mayor Ron Oden visited Desert Sunshine preschool Friday, Feb. 29, at 10 a.m. During Oden’s visit to the school, he read “Cat In The Hat” to the children.

Orphan Pet Oasis
Orphan Pet Oasis in north Palm Springs held an open house for the community Saturday, Feb. 21, from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Guests had the opportunity to tour the facility and adopt dogs.

Quilting for Good Times
Quilting for Good Times is a free weekly basic instruction quilt-making class at the La Quinta Senior Center. The class donates the quilts yearly to “Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times” for children diagnosed with cancer.
Marlene McNulty of Palm Desert sews patches onto a quilt. McNulty has been involved the the group for two years. David Orme of La Quinta has been a volunteer at the La Quinta Senior Center for 18 years and has worked more than 37,000 hours at the center. La Quinta Senior Center employee Robert Ambrez helps club members make quilts. Liz Batiste of Palm Desert and Audrey Pituzzella of La Quinta enjoy making quilts and new friends.
Liz Batiste of Palm Desert has been involved in the Quilting for Good Times Club for four months.
The Quilting for Good Times Club meets weekly to make quilts for children with cancer.
