Chili and cars
Chili and car enthusiasts voted for their favorites at the 7th Annual Sunup Rotary Show and Shine Car Show and Palm Springs High School Boosters Chili Cookoff at Pavilion Field in Palm Springs March 15. The money raised will benefit Sunup Rotary's school supply program for needy children and the Boosters club's college scholarship fund.

Day of Caring
The 4th Annual Desert Area Day of Caring for Breast Cancer Awareness at the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower March 14 educated and inspired attendees with seminars, a resource area and survivor stories. A fashion show of clothing by Iris on El Paseo and Don Vincent Men's Wear modeled by breast cancer survivors followed the luncheon.
Earthquake drill
Students and staff at St. Theresa's Catholic School in Palm Springs participated in a county-wide earthquake drill March 19. Palm Springs firefighters and paramedics assisted mock victims and helped school officials identify any changes they should make in case of a real emergency.
Kurt Wenner
Master Italian street painter Kurt Wenner created a painting entitled "Zoroaster drives bad spirits away using ancient wisdom" in the courtyard at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert March 10-14. The artist's residency was part of the McCallum Theatre Institute's Aesthetic Education Program. Photographs show the work in progress March 12 and the reception celebrating the finished work March 14.
Ovations! 2003
Desert Sands Unified School District students showed off their talents in the visual and performing arts at Ovations! 2003 at the District Education Center in La Quinta March 15.
Unique fashion show
Members of the Desert Crest Shuffleboard Club held a "One of a kind" fashion show at the group's awards and installation banquet at Sunset Inn in Desert Hot Springs March 14. All members of the club are residents of Desert Crest, a mobile home park in Desert Hot Springs.
Make Someone a Star
Mayor Jean Benson presented customer service awards to Palm Desert businesspeople at the Make Someone a Star breakfast at Desert Willow Golf Resort March 11. Duane Knapp, author of The Brand Mindset, spoke and signed books provided by the City of Palm Desert.
Tiny Tot Olympics
The City of La Quinta community services department held a Tiny Tot Olympics for children ages 3-7 at Fritz Burns Park March 15.
Ducks in the Desert
University of Oregon alumni and friends raised money for the Duck Athletic Fund at the Desert Scramble golf tournament at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert March 12.
