"Beauty and the Beast"
The On Stage Theatre Company, a local community theatre group, presented the romantic musical, "Beauty and the Beast," at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert May 16 and 17.

Southern Nights
The Renaissance at Mirage Inn, a retirement community in Rancho Mirage, hosted the Southern Nights dance featuring the Dick Redmond Trio May 16.

Jazzercise
Jazzercise encouraged seniors to get moving with a free class at Sun City Palm Desert to celebrate Older Americans Month May 13. The Simply Lite class is held three times a week at Sun City.

Junior tennis
Tennis players 18 years and younger competed at a tournament held by the National Junior Tennis League at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage May 17. Tournaments are held monthly at various clubs around the valley.

Painter of the Year
Artist Bob Fleming named Suzanne Greenberg Painter of the Year at the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society's last meeting of the season at the Palm Desert Country Club Association Clubhouse May 14.

Partners in Education
Students in the Partners in Education program at Palm Springs High School get hands-on experience in the career field of their choice during internships with local businesses.

Raymond Cree awards
Graduating students of Raymond Cree Middle School in Palm Springs received awards for academic excellence at the Honors Dessert May 15. Honorees earned straight A's in at least one subject throughout their enrollment at the school.

Shetland league
Shetland players in the Indio Youth Baseball/Softball League competed in a tournament at Davis Field May 17 and 18. The boys and girls, ages 5 and 6, have the opportunity to hit both underhand pitches from the coach and also from a tee.
