Grandest Halloween Party

Guide Dogs of the Desert International
The Roadrunner Chapter of the Country Club Managers Association of America presented Guide Dogs of the Desert International with a $10,000 donation, raised from its 2004 Charity Golf Tournament, during its awards dinner held at the Mission Hills Country Club on Oct. 25. Dinner guests were treated to a working demonstration by a guide dog and trainer.

Halloween Carnival
The Thousand Palms Community Carnival Committee Oct. 29 hosted the 13th Annual Special Needs Halloween Carnival. Burger King provided lunch for the 200 participants, and Laidlaw Transportation and Foundation for the Retarded provided transportation.

The city of La Quinta held a Tiny Tot Halloween Carnival on Oct. 29. Children ages 3 to 7 enjoyed festive games of ghost bowling, pumpkin basketball toss, and ring-around-the mummy.

Relay For Life
The Sixth Annual Palm Desert Relay For Life took place at College of the Desert at 9 a.m. on Oct. 30 and 31. More than 170 community teams participated, with some 300 cancer survivors registered. Funds raised will enable the local American Cancer Society to expand services to cancer patients and their families, offer more educational programs and to expand cancer research.

Fifth Annual Walk to fight breast cancer
Chaparral Country Club recognized October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month with its annual walk. Approximately 200 participants walked, jogged, biked or rode a golf cart to raise money for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. The participants gathered after the event in the clubhouse for a raffle and continental breakfast featuring mimosas.
