Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day
Loretta Vlach (special to the Desert Sun)
Practitioner Tina Goldberg celebrated National Acupuncture Day with an open house at her Palm Desert office. Decorations were in bright Chinese red with green accents. Hors d‘oeuvres filled the procedure rooms and bowls were overflowing with fortune cookies. Wine was served along with an assortment of ginseng “shooters.” Clients and friends visited, enjoying the sunset while being serenaded by the soothing sounds of saxophone music.

Desert Festival of The Arts

Desert Youth Ballet

The Desert Youth Ballet held a fundraiser to benefit the ballet company Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Performing Arts Building in Rancho Mirage. The event included performances by the Desert Youth Ballet and singing by 11-year-old Carlee Hendrix.

Breast Cancer Walk

The Chaparral Breast Cancer Survivors Group held a breast cancer walk Monday, Oct. 27, at Chaparral Country Club in Palm Desert to raise money for the American Cancer Society’s local chapter. October was Breast Cancer Awareness month.

La Quinta High School Cheerleading Camp

It was an exciting week for the kids enrolled in the first cheerleading camp at La Quinta High School. Approximately 60 girls, ages 5 to 13, converged on the softball field each evening at 5 p.m. for an hour of practice led by the varsity cheer squad and overseen by Kim O’Grady. At the end of the week, they performed during halftime at the varsity football game.

Erev Shabbat Service

Children from the Jewish Community School of the Desert in Palm Desert celebrated the Erev Shabbat service with residents of Palm Springs Health Care. The service included greeting the residents, songs and food. The service was presented by Jewish Family Services of Palm Springs and the Desert Area.

Health Fair

The La Quinta Senior Center hosted a health fair on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Flu shots were available, as well as artery screenings and blood pressure tests. Information on various topics geared toward the senior citizen was the mainstay of the fair, with lots of freebies and fun.
