Rancho Mirage Art Affaire

The city of Rancho Mirage and the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce presented the Third Annual Rancho Mirage Art Affaire at Whitewater Park on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month. The juried fine-art festival featured approximately 100 artists’ work on display with the soothing sounds of live jazz bands, and a beer and wine garden. Beneficiaries included the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert, Rancho Mirage Elementary School and College of the Desert.

The La Quinta Arts Association is a growing organization dedicated to fostering art and giving back to the community. The group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Desert Sands Unified School District offices. The meetings feature guest speakers, demonstrations and a monthly art competition. Palm Desert Dance Under The Stars Choreography Festival

The Sixth Annual Palm Desert Dance Under the Stars Choreography Festival, put on by the McCallum Theatre Institute in association with the city of Palm Desert and College of the Desert, was held Nov. 8 and 9 at The McCallum Theatre. The festival included amateur and professional dancers. Awards were given out in various categories.
The dancers watch the performance on a television in the Green Room.

A Fabulous Fun Fashion Show

The Fashion Show clothing store in the Palm Springs Mall hosted a show for the women of the Red Hat Society. The Red Hat Society ladies modeled the newest clothes sold at the Fashion Show Clothing Store. Arthur Barduhn played music and raffle prizes were given out.

Light Up A Life

The Fourth Annual Light Up A Life celebration and remembrance was put on by the Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties and Palm Desert Hospice Nov. 9. The program’s purpose is to remember loved ones who have passed away.

Coachella Valley Quilt Guild Craft Show

The Fountains of Carlotta was host to the Coachella Valley Quilt Guild’s Third Annual Craft Show on Nov. 3. The lobby was filled with a variety of handcrafted items ranging from quilts to crochet to water colored paintings, and lots of holiday goodies with fresh coffee on the side. The Guild numbers approximately 150 talented members who meet at the Fountains on the second Saturday of each month.

Indio School House

The Women’s Club of the Coachella Valley restored one of the first schoolhouses in Indio. The two-room schoolhouse was originally built near Oasis Street in 1909 and eventually moved to Roosevelt School and was used as a storage room until 1994. The money to refurbish the schoolhouse was raised by the Women’s Club of the Coachella Valley and will now be used for their monthly meetings.

‘Tools for Tomorrow’

The Friends of Tools for Tomorrow Auxiliary enjoyed a cocktail party at the home of Susan Schiffer on Nov. 7. The nonprofit group, which was started in Executive Director Rachel Druten’s living room and has expanded to approximately 180 members, provides for classes in the Desert Hot Springs area for elementary school children who would otherwise have no exposure to the arts.
