One Year Anniversary at Spa Resort Casino
The Spa Resort Casino hosted a 1 st Anniversary Celebration on Nov. 17 for local dignitaries, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Tribal Council and casino key staff. Community leaders reflected on the casino's first year of success. Refreshments included a chocolate fountain with dipping foods like cookies and fresh and dried fruit.

The Foreigner
A fishing lodge in Georgia is the setting for “The Foreigner,” a two act-play presented during the week of Nov. 15 by the Palm Valley School High School Drama program. Written by Larry Shue, “The Foreigner” is a plea for tolerance and understanding in a world which continues to grow smaller and more diverse.

Junior League of Palm Springs Communities
Chanel Schuering, Executive Director of Family Services of the Desert, was the guest speaker at the Nov. 9 meeting of the Junior League of Palm Springs Desert Communities at Coco 's Family Restaurant in Palm Desert . The Junior League focuses on training its women members to improve the lives of at-risk youth through education and opportunities. Attendees donated three cars' worth of canned goods for Family Services of the Desert.

Light Up A Life
The Visiting Nurse Association of the Inland Counties Palm Desert Hospice held its 5 th Annual Light up a Life – A Candle Lighting Remembrance on Nov. 14 at the La Quinta Resort and Club. The service included a musical program, with the California Desert Chorale, the California Desert Chorale Children's choir, soloist Bill Johnston and harpist Jeanette Debonne. Guest speakers provided words of comfort and solace. Attendees lit candles in honor of loved one, as the names of those in remembrance were recited.

Suitcase Party Benefits Red Cross
The Riverside County Chapter of the American Red Cross hosted a Suitcase Party on Nov. 19 at Fantasy Springs Casino. Guests were instructed to arrive with a packed suitcase. Names of all the guests were drawn – each received a prize. The last couple drawn won a weekend at Pointe South Mountain Resort in Phoenix .

Stroke Recovery Walkathon
The Stroke Recovery Center Walkathon kicked off its first walk on Nov. 14.   The spirited James O. Jessie Drill Team and Drum Squad led off the walkers. The event included live music, entertainment, food and fun.
