Encaustic Painting Class
Loretta Vlach (special to the Desert Sun)
The Desert Fine Art Academy in Palm Springs offered an “encaustic painting class” to local artists Friday afternoon, Oct. 17. Encaustic painting is the oldest form of easel painting, utilizing beeswax and pigment. According to instructor Ida Foreman, the work will survive heat and sunlight, but not sand or abrasion. Mummy portraits are the oldest example of this type, although the most famous encaustic artwork is most likely Leonardo di Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”
