The Bow-Wow Hukilau charity event was held Sept. 9 at the Caliente Tropics Resort in Palm Springs. The event included pet adoption opportunities benefiting Guide Dogs of the Desert and Save-A-Pet.

Caballeros Chorus
The Caballeros Gay Men's Chorus of Palm Springs held open rehearsals Sept. 14 at United Methodist Church in Palm Springs. The chorus is rehearsing for its holiday concert titled “Let Your Heart Be Light” that will be held Dec. 17 through 19 at the Palm Springs Desert Museum 's Annenberg Theater.

"Let's Get Acquainted"
Leadership Coachella Valley held a Western-themed mixer Sept. 16 titled “Let's Get Acquainted” at Black Angus Restaurant in Rancho Mirage.

Youth Football
The Palm Desert and La Quinta Roadrunners Youth Football League has sports activities for children ages 7 to 13. Practice is held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. and games are on Saturday mornings.

Latino Books y Mas
Latino Books y Mas in Palm Springs celebrated Mexican Independence Day with ballet folklorico dancers and the Children's Mariachi from the Mariachi Foundation of the Desert. The event was held Sept. 16.

Backpack Donation
The Imperial Irrigation District donated backpacks on Sept. 14 to children from The Boys & Girls Club of Coachella Valley, La Quinta Unit. The children were awarded backpacks in recognition of their participation in a summer education program.

Club Rio
Club Rio in Cathedral City held a free concert Sept. 15 featuring seven Latin bands. The concert was held in honor of Mexican Independence Day.

"Let Freedom Ring"
The Sun City Singers held its third annual program titled “Let Freedom Ring,” a tribute the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack and the war in Iraq . Proceeds from the concert will be contributed to the United States Marine Corps Scholarship Inc. for education of Marines who have been wounded in Iraq and their family members in 29 Palms.
The Singers pay tribute to the people who lost their lifes on 9/11.

Instrument Petting Zoo
The Southwest Community Church in Indian Wells hosted the Instrument Petting Zoo and Free Family Fun Concert Sept. 18. Families explored various instruments and enjoyed a free concert by the Coachella Valley Symphony.
