Tae Kwon Do
Tae Kwon Do class is held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the La Quinta Community Center. The class is open to all age levels.
Jesus Java Jamm
Jesus Java Jamm ministry is a Christian band that travels to churches to perform praise and worship services through Christian contemporary music. The band also encourages audience members to sing and play instruments with them during the service. The ministry visited First Baptist Church in Cathedral City Aug. 27.
Longevity Stick Class
Regina Lewis instructs Tai Chi, Longevity Stick and Qi Gong Class every Wednesday at the Joslyn Senior Center in Palm Desert. This innovative exercise program uses techniques that bring the body and mind into balance.
Choreography Camp
Desert Valley All-Star Athletics (DVAS), home of the Mavericks, held Choreography Camp the week of Aug. 23 through 27 at The Lodge in Rancho Mirage. DVAS is the Coachella Valley's first and only facility that caters to cheerleading.
Jazzercise
Jazzercise classes are held from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays at the La Quinta Community Center. Jazzercise exercise classes are designed to keep participants in good shape. Exercise routines are for all fitness levels.
Summer Reading Program
The La Quinta Senior Center sponsored a summer reading program at the Coachella Valley Boys & Girls Club's La Quinta site. The top 40 readers were presented with backpacks and school supplies. The La Quinta Senior Center solicited donations from seniors and local businesses. After the event, the children wrote "thank you" letters.
Blood Drive
A blood drive was held Aug. 28 at the Mary Pickford Theatre in the Cathedral City Civic Center to benefit Al Reshaw Jr. Reshaw, the son of Cathedral City Police Department Lt. Al Reshaw, was recently injured while driving in San Diego. People who donated blood received free movie passes and ice cream.
Junior Volunteer Pizza Party
Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage hosted a pizza party for their junior volunteers Aug. 24. The party was to honor 65 junior volunteers ages 14 to 18 for donating their summer vacation to help others.
Gerald Ford Elementary School Uniform Sales
Gerald Ford Elementary School Parent Teacher Club sold school uniforms Aug. 26 at the school in Indian Wells to prepare the pupils for the upcoming school year. The Parent Teacher Club runs programs and activities throughout the year.
